INDMO, I.P., IOM, and Portuguese public and private entities commit to promoting good governance of labour migration.

Dili, 5 September 2023 – INDMO, I.P., met the representative of IOM Portugal, IEFP  e private sector from Portugal to discuss and highlight several possible best practices to promote good governance of labor migration to Portugal. These include defining and implementing a comprehensive set of competency standards for the training of Timorese, including language proficiency, technical skills, and soft skills. This will ensure that future migrant workers have the necessary qualifications and skills to meet the demands of the Portuguese labor market. In addition to this, promote a rigorous certification system for candidates who are migrant workers to verify their qualifications and skills. This will help to build trust between employers and employees and ensure that migrant workers are employed in positions that match their abilities. The Portuguese delegation pleaded to assist INDMO, I.P., to address the labor issue, some structural challenges, and rapid changes in the working environment. The meeting was facilitated by the IOM Mission and the Portuguese Embassy in Dili.
